The two birds on the canvas are called Red Crowned Cranes (Tancho-zuru in Japanese). It is the rarest of all the cranes species and is currently on the endangered list. The Red Crowned Crane lives in Kushiro Marshland, Hokkaido Japan. In early spring, those birds perform elegant dance to attract mates. Their performance is delicate and entertaining, as if you are watching a ballet dance in the wild. I decided to paint this pair because they represent Hokkaido, and I wanted to raise awareness of the need to protect a diverse ecosystem.
